About

History

Established in 1992,  the 8th St Grill has held a fond place in many of our regulars’ hearts and wallets. The Grill has been family owned and operated since the beginning, which has allowed it to be an establishment that takes its employees and customers and treats them like family. It’s hard to find a place like that downtown Minneapolis.

Before we opened our doors in 1992 on the corner of 8th St and Marquette Ave., Brother’s Deli called that corner home.  The grand opening took place in July of 1992 and was dubbed the ‘Local watering hole’.  Our intent from the start was to offer as much outdoor dinning as possible.  With the French doors on the Marquette Ave. side that open weather permitting and our heated patio on the 8th St. Side, we are offering fresh air to our customers that typically spend their days cooped up indoors.  During the summer months, our patio is packed for lunch, happy our and well into the night.

In 2005, we branched out and opened up Mama’s Bakery, Pizza and Salad Bar in the US Bank Corp Building.  We bake everything from scratch, including our famous “Pull Apart Cinnamon Rolls.”   Our pizza has been described by visitors from New York as “a great reminder of home.’  We have have specials daily and feature the popular ‘Slice and a Salad Bar’ combo.

The founding father of both of these establishments is The Park Cafe. The Park Cafe entered the marketplace in 1986 in the TCF Bank Atrium.  As of 2004, the Park Cafe currently resides in the Hennepin County Government Center offering a salad bar, pizza, soups, sandwiches, bakery, and a great grill.  Park Cafe may also sound familiar as it is the name of our Catering branch that delivers everything from hot and cold boxed lunches to full breakfasts and dinners.

And the final branch of the Park Cafe is Park Java, also located in the Government Center – skyway level.  There we have lattes, mochas, espressos and feature coffee from Great River Roasters in Pepin, Wisconsin.

Today

What kind of establishment is the 8th St. Grill today?

It’s the kind of place you bring your coworkers for lunch and then return for great happy hour – or three!

It’s the kind of place you bring your wife before catching a movie at Block E or a play at the Orpheum Theater.

It’s the kind of place you bring your girlfriends to get your bachelorette party started.

And best of all, it’s the kind of place you go to hang out with your friends, have the best selection of tap beer available and catch the big game or play some Trivia.

For whatever occasion you are planning or for whenever you just need a cold pint, come on over and say hi.

Future

Having recently recived an interior facelift – it’s safe to say that we’ve been working the corner for over 17 years and now we’re looking better than ever!

  1. Great job having so many great beers on tap – namely Surly Furious. Supporting local breweries and offering a great beer is a win-win for everyone – keep it up!
